Control- The Joy Division Film @ UofL, 1/17

Friday, January 11th, 2008

Control, the debut film by celebrated rock photographer and video maker Anton Corbijn, documenting the life of Ian Curtis, late frontman of Manchester’s post-punk band Joy Division, is playing at UofL’s Floyd Theatre (SAC W308) Thursday, January 17 @ 6:00, 8:30 pm. It’s essentially free ($1 with student ID, $2 w/o) & if you’ve got the time, there’s no reason to miss this.

Then, if you like Control, I strongly encourage the immediate renting of 24 Hour Party People….as it loosely documents Manchester’s Factory Records incredible rise to fame, as just as quickly its demise. By association, it also documents Joy Division, New Order, Happy Mondays, and bits here & there about a few others…I absolutely loved 24 Hour Party People & strongly encourage going to see Control.

Something UK & UofL can agree upon

Monday, November 26th, 2007

      v.

Finally, something UK & UofL fan can agree upon…….a distaste for Duke.

Treveor, for the Louisville Cardinal wrote an article stating that UofL has filed suit against Duke university over a breach of contract, demanding $450,000 in damages.

The suit is over an agreement to play 4 football games, each team having 2 at home.  One of the games was played in ‘02, and Duke canceled the others.  The teams were meant to meet in ‘07-’09, but due to the wrongful cancelation of the contract (along with another possible breach by Vanderbilt), UofL has been forced to fill the spot with Murray State and University of Utah (not exactly opponents to draw in the masses)
