JESSICA 6

In 2004 Morgan Wiley and Andrew Raposo began touring the world with James Murphy-produced hip hop band Automato. They have maintained a close working relationship with DFA, most notably by contributing to both the recording and live aspects of LCD Soundsystem. That same year Nomi Ruiz released her debut album ‘Lost In Lust’ and hit the road with Deborah Harry, Antony & The Johnsons and CocoRosie. Her performace on Hercules & Love Affair’s Chicago house inspired ‘You Belong,’ a duet with Antony, was compared to Yaz-era Alison Moyet by Dazed & Confused and the UK’s Guardian referred to Nomi as a” performer who basts the spookily effortless air of a future pop icon. The trio met in 2008 while touring as part of critically acclaimed Hercules & Love Affair, an electro-disco outfit formed in the fires of New York’s dance music scene. After an extensive world tour, the three harnessed the synergy they shared on stage to create their own original music, and recast themselves as Jessica 6, which is the name of a character in the futuristic, hyper-sexed 1976 Michael Anderson movie Logan’s Run.

FREE BLOOD

Free Blood began as an attempt by former !!! percussionist/vocalist John Pugh and fashion designer Madeline Davy (Octipi NYC) to blend the impeccable style of Manhattan dance clubs with the raw energy of Brooklyn parties. The duo formed Free Blood in 2003, mixing noisy, percussion-heavy dance-punk akin to !!! with pop melodies and structures while keeping the instrumentation simple, focusing on bass guitar, drum machine, and vocals. Free Blood played live for three years, playing gigs with groups as wide-ranging as Suicide, TV on the Radio, Melt Banana, and Hot Chip and didn’t enter the studio until late 2005. In 2007, the U.K. label Adventures Close to Home released the band’s debut EP 1. That year, Pugh left !!! to concentrate on Free Blood and the group switched to Rong Music/DFA for its subsequent releases. They are currently working on their first full length album.

Free Blood- Quick & Painful

DJ A

He grew up in Louisville and is now a producer and engineer for Diplo/Mad Decent. He has remixed artists such as Spoon, MIA, Bonde de Role, and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Every time he comes back to the ‘Ville, shit blows up.
