Louisville’s The Black Diamond Heavies and The Invaders are playing at the Pink Door this Wednesday Night, April 2. The show costs $5 and starts at 10pm. I have yet to see a full on rock set at the Pink Door, so I may head over and check it out. This show will be a send off for The Black Diamond Heavies as they are setting out on a tour of the US and a few European dates.
In other Pink Door news, it is rumored that Chelsea Clinton is going to speak there tomorrow night, 4/1 (April Fools Day, but I think this is serious because it was in the Courier-Journal, so it must be true right?). The event is set to start at 7pm and is called “Our Voice, Our Future,” an intimate Q&A event. Seating will be first come first serve.
Chicago’s Ferdinand Fox, who will be playing at this week’s Halfway to Forecastle, is also stopping in to play a free house party show on Friday along with The Invaders & DJ Narwhal in Butchertown. I saw Ferdinand Fox at an OVCE event last fall & they put on an amazing show, with each member giving worthy contributions. They play an indie hip hop style clearly influenced by the Beastie Boys without detracting from their own style & it’s incredibly fun to watch. I challenge you not to dance once they are 2-3 songs in…

One Small Step is throwing a CD release party in two parts for their new album “Another Shelter“, released on Brightskull Records. At 7pm, they’re doing an in-store all-ages performance at Ear X-tacy. Then….at 10pm….they’re playing at Lisa’s Oak Street Lounge (21+). I saw One Small Step late last year at the Beejeezus 9 release party. Just two guys and a girl, a guitar, a bass and a synth, and its simple, beautiful and really good. I honestly cannot encourage seeing them highly enough. At Lisa’s, The Invaders and DJ Sean John will both be performing as well. The cd will be on sale at both of those locations as well as Cherry Bomb and We the People…and will be 50% off on that day.
