$7 / All Ages

NYC’s The States will be releasing We Are The Erasers September 22nd on Genious Collective Records.  We Are The Erasers is the follow up to Path Of Least Resistance released independently by The States in late 2007 concurrently sending them on a tornadic tour of the US in 2008.

The States’s razor-edged rock has the uncanny ability to evoke Radiohead-like dreamscapes, Zeppelin-inspired bombast, and an Orwellian political sensibility…often in the same song. Their forthcoming new album, produced by Chris Grainger (Wilco, Switchfoot), is both intimate and grandiose, at home equally in an echoing arena and in your own headphones.

The band’s inventive songwriting has earned accolades from the John Lennon Songwriting Contest (Grand Prize Winners) and the International Songwriting Contest (Winners), and it has been featured on MTV’s “The Hills” and “The Real World,” and ESPN’s “Baseball Tonight.” Q104.3’s Jonathan Clarke recently included The States in his list of the Top 10 New York bands.

Behind the music is an unconventional lineup: a Harvard-educated singer/guitarist (Chris Snyder), a punk/acid-jazz/prog-influenced drummer (Joe Stroll), and a sonic experimentalist bassist armed with an arsenal of fuzz pedals (Pete Connors).

Here is how to vote:

1.  GO HERE (WNYC’s youtube page)

2. Watch the Video

3. Join Group

4. VOTE…click on “I Love It” below the video

It’s that easy.

Be an Extra in a Lucky Pineapple Music Video!

Friday, July 31st, 2009

Lucky Pineapple is filming a new video for “A Moment in an Empty Street” with Andrew Vititoe of Vititoe Videos and they need 30 extras for the video! If you’re a fan of the band and you want to help them make their music video and get your 15 seconds of local fame, then be the first of 30 people to show up to the Cat House (747 South Preston Street, off Broadway) with a bright solid-colored shirt by 8pm on August 22nd (until who knows when). You are encouraged to eat before you come and to RSVP to Facebook HERE.  By RSVPing you are agreeing to:

  • Being there and not making lame excuses the day of shooting for not being able to be there.
  • Wearing a bright solid-colored shirt.
  • Having a great time filming in a small-ish space with some potentially sweaty people.

DISCLAIMER: Lucky Pineapple reserves the right to turn you away if:

  • Thirty people show up before you do and they don’t need anyone else for the shot
  • You are wearing the wrong clothes (e.g., black, white, or something with a logo on it)
  • You are generally acting like a jerk and haven’t been directed to do so.

For the people who show up and are capable of following instructions, it should be an awesome time.

MUSIC VIDEO: Heidi Montag (Pratt) – Black Out [a look into the soul]

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

I can’t go to the TV on the Radio concert tonight, so I had to settle for youtube music videos.  This piece of [art] is not only entertaining, but an interesting glimpse of mild genius.  It blends political satire with an electronic concern for the everyman….think Pride & Prejudice meets Slaughterhouse Five.  Just look at this one verse:

Black out the satellite and be my road star
You wanted anything else so show ya my heart
Let’s leave this city behind us
We can get out of here

(Let’s go)

She is clearly referring to her GPS.  It has lost its signal and they can’t get to Santa Barbara from Beverly Hills without it.  But then she decides to go anyway, despite the huge setback.  She will simply follow her heart home; a place where it may have been all along.  Below this layer, she could be referring to commercialism and the need for more of it.  If you look closely (perhaps on a second view), you can see that she is wearing a bikini at 2:15.  Without more accessories, how can she fully express what she feels?  Perhaps only during a black-out.

Here is her first music video.  Notice the clear departure from her youth and embrace of maturity.

Animal Collective- My Girls

Merriweather Post Pavillion just released this month and they already have a music video for one of my favorite tracks on the album.  Also, condolences to my brother and the other west coasters who had tix to AC’s LA show last night that was canceled.

Enjoy.

You can read our review of the album here.
