Boomslang ended up being kind of a long weekend.  There was so much going on and so much great music that kept me out until ridiculous hours of the night, that I was downright exhausted on Sunday.  I decided to take it easy for most of the day until the last band at Buster’s which I was expecting (correctly) to be the highlight of the whole festival.  That band is the irrepressible Brazilian band Os Mutantes.

A recent study by Sperling’s BestPlaces was completed looking for the best and worst place for single kids to play around, and our beloved city fell in the lower rankings. The study was based on criteria that included percentage of singles aged 18-24, population density, and dating venues per capita such as concerts, coffee shops, bars, bowling alleys, etc., and included 80 metro areas in America. They teamed up with AXE Deodorant Bodyspray, which specializes in the dating game, to find out which city is revered as the D.C. (Dating Capital) of the U.S.

So how did the results turn out?

Worst Cities for Dating

The reason? According to the study, at least one of the reasons was:

Remove Earplugs: Louisville (overall No. 76) scores low in the concert category; apparently the tour buses are not making a habit of stopping and rocking in Louisville

Let’s see what we can do about this Louisville….

NICK’S TAKE:

Having gone to college in Colorado Springs, CO and being a big fan of the Louisville music scene (especially recently), I wanted put in my two cents. Colorado Springs (the so-called #2 dating city) is a very conservative town with a lot of military families. There are not very many bars and I can’t tell you a single big name artist that ever visited the city while I was there (Denver is an hour away and doesn’t count, neither do Cowboy Mouth shows). Without bars or music venues, and most of the population living in the suburbs, the only single people you will find are the college kids stumbling off campus. There are a lot of outdoor activities that are amazing, but I can guarantee AXE Bodyspray (co-sponsor of this “Study”) didn’t hike up Pikes Peak for sampling, as they were too busy fighting off women due to their irresistible scent.

Don’t be turned-off (no pun intended) by this study.
