VIDEO: Miley Cyrus at Phoenix Hill Tavern (Yes I Just Wrote That)…

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

http://www.fullhalloween.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/09/miley_cyrus_faith_keeps_me-grounded1.jpg

I never thought I would be posting about Miley Cyrus, but here I go…

After her show at Freedom Hall, Ms. Cyrus made an appearance at the legendary Phoenix Hill Tavern (three blocks from my house).  She sang “I Love Rock ‘n Roll” with Jefferson TARC Bus…

Sorry, I just fell out of my chair.

Apparently Jefferson TARC Bus has a connection to her pops, Billy Ray (Cyrus).

Here is a video from the performance that made it to TMZ.com (thanks LMN for the heads-up).

Review: Blue Man Group @ Freedom Hall – 4/25

Monday, April 28th, 2008

The Blue Man Group performed at Freedom Hall on Friday, April 25th as part of their “How to Become a Megastar Tour 2.1.” I saw these guys (I know there are more than three) in Chicago a few years back and I was blown away by their creative blend of percussion, art, comedy, and lighting. There is a lot of audience participation, which is always fun, and you never know what crazy contraption they will pull out next. Their shows are an all around great time and this show was no exception.

The performance was based around a “How to Become a Megastar” instruction manual purchased from Fred Armisen aka RockCo Pitchman. UPS (appropriately selected for Louisville) delivered the manual. From there the Blue Men followed the path to megastardom taking the audience on a whirlwind ride as they played everything from PVC pipes to a Piano Smasher, which works exactly as the name suggests. My favorite instruments, however, were the Airpoles. An Airpole is a boat antenna that is swung back and forth rapidly creating a sound similar to a DJ scratching a record. The show ended with Rock Lesson #6, the fake finish, and #3, the encore. They played The Who’s “Baba O’Riley” (or “Teenage Wasteland” for the casual fan…thanks Justin!) and received a roaring round of applause and standing ovation.

Mike Relm opened and his performance featured audio/video mashups that are manipulated in real time. Some of the crowd pleasers were the “O” face from Office Space, Zoolander, and Nacho Libre. It has to be tough to open for a show like the Blue Man Group, but Relm pulled it off nicely, mixing easygoing humor with a ton of talent on the turntables.

The Blue Man Group were in Lexington, KY last night and are start the northeast swing of the tour on Wednesday for a few shows before heading to Europe.

More pics below the break…

Gravedigger (the MONSTER truck) is coming to Louisville as part of the Monster Jam Louisville.  Tix are on sale now for $16.  The show starts at Freedom Hall at 7:30.  I really don’t recommend going (Halloween weekend), but if you do, go on Saturday to the Party in the Pits (starts at 4:30)!  The party is included in your admission fee and you can get Gravedigger’s autograph!  How?  Who cares, its Gravedigger!

In related news, here is the band Grave Digger singing “Valhalla”:
