You Ain’t No Picasso turned us onto a great show…in addition to their show later that night at The Dame, Cursive will also be playing CD Central on August 11th. For those unfamiliar, CD Central is Lexington’s ear X-tacy and has a history of bringing some pretty incredible acts in for in-store performances. I recall having caught The Black Keys there back in 2005 and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club in 2008. They’ve also had Andrew Bird, Kathleen Edwards, Richard Buckner, Tha’ Legendary Shack Shakers, Avett Brothers, Heartless Bastards, Apples in Stereo, and many many others.

The huge bonus for the CD Central show is for the crowd under 21 and/or the crowd without the money to spend on the show. Though having caught Cursive at Lollapalooza in 2006, it’s well worth making it over to both The Dame and to CD Central. The CD Central goes down at 7pm and is all ages.

Cursive is coming to Cincinnati along with Capgun Coup to get everyone excited for this year’s Midpoint Music Festival. I guess it’s intending to be a toned-down Halfway to Forecastle type deal.  The show is Wednesday April 9 @ Below Zero Lounge (1120 Walnut Street, Downtown Cincinnati) starting at 8pm, so you can get up for work the next morning.  The Midpoint Music Festival started in 2002 in Cincinnati’s Over the Rhine district with 10,000 people and has grown more than 5 fold since. I saw Cursive 2 years ago at Lollapalooza and it was an incredible show.  Their discography is huge, and I consider them to be amongst the more important and under-appreciated bands of today.

Doors open at 7, Capgun Coup goes on at 8, Cursive at 9.  However, you should get there early if you can, because upstairs there is a free party with cheap beer & free food to announce some of the things that will be going on at this year’s Midpoint Music Festival.  Don’t get too excited though…the line-up isn’t expected to be released until late July for the late September festival.

Cursive is coming to the Rhinos All Ages Club in Bloomington, IN on April 8.  I had the chance to see Cursive at Lollapalooza two years ago.  At the time, I was unfamiliar with them.  Cursive has an incredibly devout following, but I would have to say on the whole they are rather underrated as a band.  They’ve done well with critics, but I think they’ve not worked very hard to be present in the eye of the concert goer, although perhaps that’s just in this area.  They’ve definitely done their work in the studio with 6 albums over 10 years.  Their live show was very impressive & I was instantly converted into a fan.

I always preach it, but the road to Bloomington is a short one, so make the commitment if you can and go see these guys. Okkervvil is the night before, so just stay the night and catch them both.
