VIDEO: Louisville’s TARC Drops Another Hit With “That’s the Way I Roll”

I need to meet the genius behind the videos.  Here is another great hit from our very own TARC crew titled “That’s the Way I Roll.” Here’s a few words from TARC on the video:

THAT’S THE WAY I ROLL. TARC is proud to introduce its talented team members who composed the music and performed for the video, “That’s the Way I Roll.” TARC driver Dan Ridener and friends composed the song. He is joined by driver Dan Anglea on harmonica, mechanic Warren Rowe on guitar and the TARCettes in TARC’s Union Station.

If you recall, they originally released the Bike Rack Rap back in 2008 which took the music world by storm.  See it below.

I’m thinking a 7″ on colored vinyl limited to 500 or so.  Karate Body, where ya at?

Pokey LaFarge’s Daytrotter Session (7″ w/ Joe Manning on Karate Body)

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

Pokey LaFarge has graced Daytrotter with a fantastic session which you can check out HERE.  Pokey has spent quite a bit of time in Louisville.  In a 2008 interview with LEO, he said:

Well, I was traveling around with a “circus” of old-time music performers. We traveled through Louisville and played a show and I met a knockout gal and fell in love and stuck around. I fell in love with Louisville at the same time and it made the whole love affair that much more intense.

I’m not sure this man knows where home really is.  It’s not really his style, preferring time on the road and living the life of a traveler, learning the stories of the people and spreading his own.  Parts Kerouac, Bukowski & Lightnin’ Hopkins, Pokey knows how to entertain.  We caught him at this year’s Forecastle and he put on a fantastic show.  We hope to catch him again soon.

UPDATE: You also can’t forget Joe Manning’s new song, “Lately at A Lesser Table” that appears on The White Belt split 7-inch with Pokey LaFarge that is out now via Karate Body Records.

Thomas A. Minor & the Picket Line CD Release Show @ Zanzabar – 10/29

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009
Thomas A. Minor & the Picket Line have a CD release show this Thursday, October 29th, at Zanzabar.  Uncle Monk (Tommy Ramone and Claudia Tienan) is also on the bill (actually headlining).  Thomas A. Minor & The Picket Line’s new album is a seven song EP recorded at In Room One Studios.  The packaging letter was pressed by Jennifer Parson and “hand-glued by the band.”  The band includes Oscar, Brad, Danny, Cheyenne, Jonathan and Bob (if you didn’t know already). You can’t go wrong with this one.  Show starts at 9pm.  $7 cover.  21+.
About Uncle Monk:

Uncle Monk is an indie-acoustic duo featuring TOMMY RAMONE on vocals, mandolin, guitar, banjo and dobro, and CLAUDIA TIENAN on vocals, guitar and bass.

Uncle Monk’s music is rooted in old-time and bluegrass influences. To this mix they have added unique musical textures to create a sound with a new sensibility. “We are working with what feels natural to us.” says Ramone. “We are making use of string-band instrumentation along with alternative rock flavorings. We use mandolins and other stringed instruments to add texture and dimension to the overall sound. We have been drawn towards the classic simplicity of string band music, but at the same time we are deeply involved with the aesthetics of alternative music, and we do our best to use our musical influences to create an original style. There is a similarity between punk & old time music, both are home brewed as opposed to schooled, both have earthy energy, and there is a certain cool in old time music that is found in the best alternative acts.”

The songs of Uncle Monk deal with many aspects of modern existence, joys, sorrows, loves, fears, longings, desolation, revelation and exhilaration. The themes are about small town life, coming to the big city, urban gentrification, interpersonal relationships, spiritual longings, melancholy, and emotional needs.
