Eremy•Jirvin & the free=ends (hehe… get it?), Graham Prather & Egret @ The Swan Dive. October 8th, 2009. No Cover. Go start your pre-weekend the right way with some fantastic local acts.
We don’t put on a ton of shows, but we could not pass us the opportunity to bring these three bands together for one amazing Saturday night line-up. Backseat Sandbar is pleased to present Casiotone for the Painfully Alone with Louisville’s Chemic and You’re My Density at Skull Alley on Saturday, June 27th. Each act is going to bring a separate and unique brand of entertainment to the stage for what will be sure to be an all-out party. Tickets are just $5 bucks, so we want Skull Alley to be packed. Skull Alley’s bar is open, so be sure to enjoy a cold brew with the tunes. Doors are at 7:00 with the first band going on promptly at 8:00pm.
We brought Casiotone to town last Halloween with No Kids and Pomegranates for what Leo Magazine called “one of 2008’s better indie lineups.” Since Owen was last in Louisville, he has been incredibly busy, having put together a “songs from the road” style album of b-sides and rarities called “Advance Base Battery Life” (review) featuring Nick from No Kids on a few of those tracks as well as a full length LP “Vs. Children” (review) which focuses less on the lo-fi keys of earlier work and instead moving towards live instrumentation.

You’re My Density is a very new synth-pop band from Louisville, who you can tell take inspiration from Casiotone, except that they trade Owen’s lofi for a little more hifi sound. They sent us their CD in the mail and after a single listen, we knew we wanted them on this bill! We see great things for this band, as they are highly talented, have a great sound that can appeal to a wide array of audiences, and have a unique personality that is characterized by the green underwear on their album art [we have no clue what the meaning is, but appreciate the bold call].
Chemic is also a Louisville based band that is coming into its own. The just finished an exhaustive mid-west tour, they are set to play at this year’s Forecastle Festival and Mid-Point Music Festival and they were recently featured on My Old Kentucky Blog’s Launtromatinee (See video below). A great addition to this bill, we will get to see them in the up-close and personal environment of Skull Alley.
Just a reminder about the show tonight at The Pour Haus. This will be a good one with Lexington’s Chico Fellini bringing their acclaimed live show to Louisville. You will get a chance to see why You Ain’t No Picasso says that their record is the best to come out of Kentucky this year.
Locals The Instruction and Chemic are sure to delight as always. We told you about Chemic being on Laundro Matinee recently, so you should see for yourself if the hype is true. There has been some confusion in the LEO and Velocity about a different show happening, but do not be fooled. This is the show that is happening at The Pour Haus tonight.
Show starts at 9. If you come late, you will miss a band or two and that is something you don’t want to do. Word is that the cover is $3 and as always, this one isn’t for the kiddies because it is a 21+ over show due to the booze-y nature of The Pour Haus.
The Warmer Milks put out one of the more overlooked albums of the year. Soft Walks (review) is a heady mix of extra-terrestrial folk. It also features the addition of Paul Oldham (Palace Brother, et. al.) to Milks mastermind Michael Turner’s lineup. They’ll be putting on a show in their hometown of Lexington on Sunday at Al’s Bar.

Black Diamond Heavies- Smoothe It Out [audio=http://ninebullets.s3.amazonaws.com/Black_Diamond_Heavies_-_Smoothe_It_Out.mp3]
This will be the debut performace of Louisville’s The Sick City Four, featuring Dan Willems, Chris Willems, Heather Floyd and Bart Galloway. Most likely they will be playing horns, drums, and double bass. Plus, as always, DCE has a great selection of beer, coffee and tea. (That sounded like a plug, but I’m telling you it is true.)
The Dropkick Murphys are coming to Louisville’s CityBlock on Nov. 22nd. Dropkick Murphys are a fun & incredibly routy band of punks from just outside of Boston, but could be easily mistaken for being as Irish as the songs they sing. I haven’t heard much from them since around 2000, but that’s largely because I’ve been removed from most of what is happening in the punk world since then. The show is an shockingly early one at 6pm and costs a little more than I would expect a punk concert shy of Green Day to cost at $25.

You all know the VHS or BETA DJZ and Jesse Jamz, but let me introduce you to Hollywood Holt and Curtified (1/2 of Flosstradamus). I’ve been a fan of Hollywood Holt for a while now, since I got my hands on Holt Goes to Hollywood. Let me tell you now, this show is going to be crazy. Your only dilema will be juggling the Girl Talk show at Headliners. My solution will be to do both. Fuzion won’t get started until 11:30, which means you can get your Girl Talk fix until midnight, then head over to Fuzion for, basically, a continuation of an already high energy night.
