Kelcy Mae w/ Geoff Koch @ Uncle Slayton’s 8/17

Check it out! Another great show at Uncle Slayton’s! We can’t keep up with all of them, but thought you should check out this one. See you there!

Geoff Koch – Geoff has been making albums and booking tours across the United States since 2004. With three records in tow and a People’s Choice Award for Best Singer-Songwriter in St. Louis (St. Louis Music Awards), Geoff has embarked on several successful solo tours, being featured at festivals and showcases across the country. What does he sound like? Elliott Smith’s “XO” meets Wilco’s “Summerteeth” with a dash of Sigur Ros soundscapes bumping into Bright Eyes having a drink with Ryan Adams and Salvador Dali.

Geoff is in the process of writing and compiling songs for a new EP, expected out next year. In 2008, Geoff recorded his 3rd album, If It Feels Good, Don’t Do It, on Music Row in Nashville, Tennessee. Co-produced by Ken Coomer (Wilco/Uncle Tupelo), engineered by Charlie Brocco (Fleetwood Mac, George Harrison), the album was heralded by many, including The St. Louis Riverfront Times, PLAYBACK:stl, Whatzup Magazine and Flagpole. Geoff’s unapologetic and sincere live performances leave listeners both chilled and awed, undoubtedly the reason he’s been able to create a national fanbase all on his own.

Kelcy Mae – On the wings of soaring vocal and songwriting abilities, accompanied by a remarkable lineup of New Orleans instrumentalists, and with the help of a dedicated fan base, Kelcy Mae’s second album, Pennies in Hand, has arrived in stores, online and over the airwaves this year. Already heralded by the New Orleans Times Picayune, Offbeat Magazine, The Shreveport Times and more, Kelcy Mae shines in this beautifully written and produced follow-up to her 2007 debut album, The Times Compiled.

Combining traditional southern bluegrass and country instrumentation with an acoustic independent rock sound, she hits a pitch perfect balance of alt rock/alt country that follows in the tradition of musical greats like Ani Difranco, Natalie Merchant or Casey Chambers. One of her great strengths as an artist lies in her subtlety — beautifully-nuanced lyrics and arrangements which reflect that very notion of human emotions. She leaves simplistic odes to love or lust or heartbreak to other artists and instead dwells in the fascinating space of sudden realizations and complicated
reactions.

Kelcy Mae lives and regularly plays in New Orleans, where she recently earned an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of New Orleans. Though she plays throughout the southern region, this is her first Midwestern tour.
