Our good friend, Bro. Stephen has had a few hand-made releases, but now in collaboration with Crossroads of America Records and Flannelgraph Records and their Laminar Excursion Monthly, he has a new record to share with us. Here’s the skinny:
The record was record completely live with an all-star band in one afternoon at Russian Recording in Bloomington, IN. There are 4 songs clocking in at exactly 20 minutes (the format is a 3″ CD). These songs may be a bit different than what you’d expect from Bro. Stephen, but that’s not a bad thing. The lineup for this recording consisted of Mike Adams (of husband&wife) on guitar, Mike Dixon (Rapider Than Horsepower/DM Stith) on bass, Justin Vollmar (Vollmar, Half-Handed Cloud) on spooky organ, Dave Segedy (DM Stith, Arrah and The Ferns) on drums, Stephanie Kincheloe on vocals, and Scott Kirkpatrick on guitar and vocals.

For those that don’t know, Bro. Stephen is a harmony-heavy, darker folk-ish band in a similar vein as Bon Iver/Mount Eerie/Bonnie “Prince” Billy that is sometimes solo, sometimes full band (but hardly ever the same band). He is going to be releasing his first 7″ shortly on Crossroads of America Records and it will be the single to his upcoming full-length entitled Baptist Girls coming out on the same label which features vocals and violin from the immensely talented Cheyenne Mize.
