REVIEW: Rodrigo y Gabriela @ The Brown – 3/7

Rodrigo y Gabriela played to a packed house at Louisville’s Brown Theatre last week and put on one the of best shows I’ve seen in the past three years (and I’ve been to about 200).  I knew they were good after seeing them at Bonnaroo last year, but that set was in broad daylight, on the big stage and they both were seated the entire time.  Even so, it was one of the most memorable performances of the festival.  Flash forward to last week and they took their show to a whole new level.  Their talent on the guitar stands alone and combined with playful stage banter, interesting insight on each song (each song on 11:11 is based on a famous musician), a light show of sorts and one the most energetic Brown Theatre crowds I’ve ever seen, this night will not be soon forgotten. At one point, it broken English, Rodrigo took a moment to discuss the importance of local music stores.  In fact, to help support ear x-tacy, RyG stayed after the show and signed their merch that was brought to the lobby and sold by ear x-tacy.  They sold out of vinyl before the show even started, so I was a little upset that I missed this opportunity, but oh well, I have the memory of the show and that’s what matters.

I know we throw out a lot of suggestions to you about what music we like, but take my word, if you haven’t checked RyG out, please give them a listen.  If you don’t like it, comment below and I will listen to any album you pick (even the Justin Bieber Anthology).
