The Magnetic Fields have a new album, Realism, coming out on Jan. 26 and they will be touring in support of in early next year. The closest they are coming to Louisville will be the Buskirk Chumley Theatre in Bloomington, Indiana on March 5th. I will definitely be at this show. I saw Bonnie Billy at the BCT earlier this year and it is a nice venue. There really isn’t a bad seat in the house and the balcony is small enough that you can see well, even from the top. Even though it is theatre seating, it is normally general admission, so get there early and grab a front row seat. Tix are $27.50. More details below…

The Buskirk-Chumley Theater proudly presents Indie sensation The Magnetic Fields on March 5, 2010 at 8 PM. Tickets are $27.50 (reserved seating) and will be available to donors and sponsors only starting Tuesday, November 17, 2009, 11 AM. The general public has access to the tickets a full week later, on Tuesday, November 24, 2009, 11 AM.
Those in the know might be familiar with The Magnetic Fields and their front man Stephin Merrit, who lives and works in New York City. Adept at computer music programming and production, Merritt records his own albums and plays almost everything on them with help from cellist Sam Davol, banjo player/second guitarist John Woo, and percussionist/ pianist Claudia Gonson. The Magnetic Fields have released six full-length CD’s between 1993 and 1999, all on Merge Records. The Charm of the Highway Strip (1994) is an electro-country meditation on life on the open road.
