King Khan & BBQ Show Will “Never Set Foot in Kentucky Again” After Arrest

http://drbristol.files.wordpress.com/2009/05/king_khan.jpg

You’ve probably heard by now that Arish Khan of King Khan & BBQ was arrested last night with his tour manager for possession of a controlled substance (shrooms) in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. I’m sure that will all get straightened out, but don’t expect the band to ever return to Kentucky.  Hopkinsville’s local paper, Kentucky New Era, in an article by Nick Tabor, interviewed the band’s booking agent, Sam Hunt who is quoted saying:

“I’d kind of be surprised if they played again,” Hunt said. “It’s been a real drag, you know? It’s been a real shame for a lot of reasons. They’ll probably never set foot in Kentucky again.”

I hope they change their mind, or at least make an exception for a Louisville show.

  1. ChrisT says:

disappointing, been wanting to see them for sometime

  2. A Wicked Thirst says:

    Really? Just like that?

They get busted and they hold the whole state guilty?

    Whatevs dude.

  3. Cory says:

This is really retarded. I’ve dealt with Sam a few times and he’s a great guy and he works with great artists (Deacon, Diplo, Black Kids, Prefuse 73).That said, so few if any of Sam’s artists ever come through Kentucky which is really unfortunate. Now with an increased bias, I guess it’s good luck getting any of the good Windish artists in KY!

  4. James says:

Kentucky’s fault they were pulled over and jesus told them to do shrooms.

    ok guys…. >_>

  5. louis says:

Don’t blame KK, or booking agents, or any other reason other than the state of Kentucky. blame shitty KY cops and a super conservative state for your fun being taken away. In any other civilized area they would have just given them a slap on the wrist and on their way. Or worst case, held for a few hours. Not *three whole days* to prove a point to the yankees. can you blame them for not wanting to come to KY again?

I can see a lot of other touring groups not wanting to go to KY after this… who wants to deal with overzealous cops looking to make a name for their slack jawed selves?

  6. Windish was pretty good to Lexington. We had Animal Collective come through a couple of times, as well as Diplo, RJD2, Low, and a few others. They give us some love. I’d like to see more Windish stuff in Louisville, obviously.

Anyway, I wrote an open letter to the band about my thoughts on, well, their thoughts – http://bit.ly/1j7JkH

  7. Louis dude… drugs are illegal wherever you go. There’s various punishments and attitudes on marijuana on a state to state basis, but shrooms will get you in trouble in any part of the country.

  8. Cory says:

When was Diplo in Lexington? I regret missing that one! I thought AC only came the once, so I guess I missed those too! I was totally at Low though, literally sleeping during Warmer Milks’ sleepy set (along with most of the crowd)!

  9. Diplo was at Beaux Arts Ball a couple of years ago, and AC came through twice. The first was a WRFL show at Artsplace (since UK is dry, we took them to Buster’s afterward which ruled – Ariel Pink were HILARIOUS) on the tour between Sung Tongs and Feels. The second was at The Dame right before Strawberry Jam dropped.
