eremy•JIrvin, who you may know as Jeremy Irvin of Second Story Man has branched out on his solo endeavor, in a not so solitary manner. Embracing a musical dogma that includes a rotating cast of musical friends(The Free=ends), Irvin explores the idea of allowing his songs to guide themselves, turning each performance over to the innovation of the group as a whole. Ultimately eremy•JIrvin’s vision rings true to the origin of organic folk music, music for and by the people. At November 23rd’s performance at Skull Alley, the Free=ends will include Sareden Wells’s Drew Sellers and Natural Geographic’s Sean Johnson. The lineup for the evening also features another Louisvillian creating quite a stir, Justin Lewis, who just released his debut album Man in Motion. Lewis’ weathered bluesy voice and sinceresongwriting materialize into a contemplative and canny performance. In addition to Louisville natives, this show also brings guests Alexa Woodward (New York) and Elam Blackman (Knoxville), who although not Kentucky natives, adhere to similar roots and proclaim it musically. New York based artist Alexa Woodward blends Americana and folk utilizing her beckoning voice and distinctive banjo style while Knoxville’s Elam Blackman, engages his audience with carefree melodies that he describes as both “intimate and accessible.” Woodward, accompanied by Elam Blackman makes Louisville a stop on her Midwest tour, and will be playing an earlier performance at Ear X-tacy at 6pm Monday November 23rd, 2009. In accordance to the grassroots ideology, and eremy•JIrvin’s desire to let the music and musicians drive the performance, expect and embrace spontaneity and likely collaborations throughout the evening.
