Who is Banksy?

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

Banksy, the world’s most famous graffiti artist, may have been photographed in the act.  Here are the pictures of his newest London installation:

Here is another alleged photo of Robert Banks, aka Banksy:

For a guy as famous as Banksy and the magnitude of some of his work, I’m surprised he doesn’t attract more of a crowd.

The Brothers Quay @ 21c

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

Jesus Christ. Somebody needed to prepare me for that.

Tonight was the 6 shorts by the Brothers Quay. While I’d consider myself an oddball, I’m far from being confident to talk film noir. I’ve made a few miscellaneous videos available…they’re realtively indicative….except that you NEED to see Streets of Crocodiles, which I’ve posted for your viewing. I could always pick very basic themes out, but truthfully they were a bit hard to follow.  They do present a surprising amount of realism in spite of the puppetry though.

To Watch the films (more…)

Young Guns of Comedy @ Pink Door – This Friday!

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

The Young Guns of Comedy are back in town, doing their thang at the Pink Door. I’ve seen some of these guys individually (I’m sure of having seen the cat on the far right of the top pic) & while Dario (bosnian kid 3rd from the right on the top) is a buddy of mine, my recommendation of his show shouldn’t be treated as being familial…..this kid is ridiculous. Nevertheless, I’ve met all of these guys out at one stage or another, and while I haven’t seen them all together, I intend to change that this weekend (thank God its on Friday….Saturday is dedicated to my dearest Holly). While you’re there…I suggest the blueberry tea with vodka. Just don’t be a homophobe & maybe you’ll get an extra stiff (poor word choice) drink.

As if you need added incentive to attend, 8 lucky members of the audience will be receiving free….that’s right…..FREE TICKETS TO THE MISFITS!!!! The misfits (hear Jerry Only & no Glenn Danzig) are performing Nov. 2. For more information about THAT show, go back in time.

Brothers Quay Screening @ 21c – Tuesday Oct. 30 – 7pm & 9pm

Monday, October 29th, 2007

Riped wholesale from their MySpace bulletin, here’s what the Louisville Film Society has to say about the event:

Celebrate Halloween with us @ 21c Museum Hotel with a festival of films by the Brothers Quay. All films will be screened on 16mm prints.

Identical twins, the extraordinary Brothers Quay have been blurring the boundary between miniature puppetry and live action with their innovative short films since the late 1970s. On their exquisite handcrafted sets they have conjured up an unforgettable world, suggestive of a landscape of long repressed childhood dreams.

The following films will be screened:

1) REHEARSALS FOR EXTINCT ANATOMIES
2) THE EPIC OF GILGAMESH
3) THE CABINET OF JAN SVANKMAJER
4) NOCTURNA ARTIFICIALIA
5) ANAMORPHOSIS
6) STREET OF CROCODILES

The Quays’ masterpiece, STREET OF CROCODILES is adapted from a
short story by Bruno Schulz, and was their first film shot on 35mm.
A museum keeper spits into the eyepiece of an ancient peep-show and
sets the musty machine in motion, plunging the viewer into a nightmarish
netherworld of bizarre puppet rituals among the dirt and grime

Tuesday, Oct 30th
2 Screenings: 7:OOPM & 9:00PM
FREE & Open to the Public
700 West Main Street
Come early and join us before the screening at Proof!

Sounds great to me. I’m in.

Boink.cd? The Pirate Bay to replace Oink?

Friday, October 26th, 2007

The Pirate Bay has become a wonderful playground for activists of the conscious downloader in recent months.  First, they took mediadefender-defenders.com in when mediadefender was using distributed denial of service attacks to effectively eat up all of MD-D’s bandwidth. Now Torrent Freak is reporting that TPB is stepping up, intent on replacing Oink with BOINK.cd by the end of the week (it’s not up yet).  TPB is really stepping into the limelight.  They’ve already filed charges against several media companies.  It’s bold, but I think it is time to stop being scared and letting organizations like the RIAA know that people aren’t afraid.

Why Louisville?

Friday, October 26th, 2007

Possibly the greatest shirt I have ever seen, Why Louisville? on bardstown rd has created the Paradise City shirt.  If you don’t get the reference, you’re clearly not a big enough Guns N Roses fan.  As far as I know, its only rumor, so I’ll say “rumor has it” that Axl is from Southern Indiana (Lafayette), and in the song “Paradise City” he’s referring to Louisville.  For the holiday, they’re open until 9pm tonight giving out candy, so stop by and get this eye candy along with some free, more traditional candy (i don’t recommend eating the shirt). The shirt costs $17.99 which isn’t bad at all, and is printed on everyone’s favorite, American Apparel.

On an interesting note, in an appearance on the BBC’s Never Mind The Buzzcocks Slash says the original line was “where the girls are fat and they’ve got big t!++ies”.
